Promoting Greener Public Purchasing - Working with OECD: Because the
consumption generated and controlled by the activities of public administrations is very considerable, their
environmental effects are also very relevant. So it is not surprising that across the OECD member countries,
citizens are intensifying their demand that administrations adopt an overall greener approach. Among OECD
countries, government consumption of products and services stands at 5 to 15 percent of total Gross Domestic
Product (GDP). Increasingly, environmental policy-makers aim at implementing greener public purchasing to
achieve sustainable production and consumption. Incorporating these priorities within existing tendering
