Re: Recognition of PMN P-09-006 as 2010 New Chemicals Program Pollution Prevention (P2) Recognition Award Recipient

Dear Mr. Grabiel:

It is a special honor for me to congratulate you for commencing manufacture of a chemical with particular merit for its potential to prevent pollution in the environment. The above-referenced Premanufacture Notice (PMN), which you submitted under section 5 of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and for which you have submitted a Notice of Commencement, is being recognized for its "pollution prevention" (P2) potential.

The Agency acknowledges submitters of innovative new chemicals which are selected for recognition by the New Chemicals Program P2 Recognition Project because they promote source reduction as well as safety goals, in particular when the innovative chemistries substitute for existing chemicals posing greater risks. EPA has selected your company for this recognition for the following reasons: High-oleic or HO canola oil contributes to improved industrial operation efficiency due to less change out of fluid (no sludge/varnish buildup) and longer equipment life. Adverse effects of HO canola to the environment or organisms are not anticipated due to its low toxicity and rapid decomposition.

Please keep Jim Willis, Director of the Chemical Control Division, informed of the commercial success of this substance, and of any new toxicity data that becomes available. Again, I congratulate Archer Daniels Midland Company on your efforts.

Sincerely,

Wendy Cleland-Hamnett
Director
Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics
