2012 EPA Research Progress Report
Collaborating on Health Disparities Research
EPA is a partner in the Federal Collaboration on Health Disparities Research , a coordinated, federal effort to target health improvement in populations disproportionately affected by disease, injury and/or disability. The collaboration pools scientific expertise and resources to advance the research needed to accelerate the elimination of health disparities in vulnerable populations.
Additionally, EPA is partnering with the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) , a division of the National Institutes of Health . This partnership supports health disparities research that takes into account the complex interaction of biological, social, and environmental factors that influence the health of certain populations. EPA and NIMHD recently funded 10 grant awards to support research initiatives and activities within NIMHD Centers of Excellence program.
