Following release of the Interim Policy on Genomics (2002), a Genomics Task Force was formed in 2003, at the request of EPA's Science Policy Council (SPC). The group was charged with the task of examining the broader implications genomics is likely to have for EPA programs and policies, to attempt to gain further understanding of the appropriate usage of these data and the potential consequences of their use, as well as to identify possible infrastructure needs. The group was also charged with developing scenarios to describe various circumstances under which EPA might receive these data. The resulting document is intended to present implications of the use of genomics technologies in EPA practice for the consideration of Agency managers. It is the intent of the Genomics Task Force to initiate a discussion of the scientific issues regarding the incorporation of genomics information into human health and ecological risk assessments and of how these data will likely affect regulatory policy and decision making in the future.
