Scientific Integrity
In response to the Presidential Memorandum on Scientific Integrity dated March 9, OSA has been working with OSTP to develop recommendations for the President and with EPA's Science Policy Council to establish the EPA position on the topic. The Acting Science Advisor, Kevin Teichman, has represented EPA in the interagency process. Within EPA, Administrator Jackson's May 9 memo directed the Science Policy Council (SPC) to lead on the issue of Scientific Integrity, e.g. update and reaffirm the EPA Peer Review Handbook. A workgroup led by the Chief Scientist, Pai-Yei Whung and co-chaired by the SPC Steering Committee members, Neil Stiber and Nancy Wentworth, are to first update the definition and scenarios of "appearance of a lack of impartiality". OSA is also working with SPC on the development of the Transparency in Risk Assessment White Paper. Administrator Jackson testified in front of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works on "Scientific Integrity and Transparency Reforms at the Environmental Protection Agency" on June 9.
