Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs)

Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) are colleges or universities where total Hispanic enrollment constitutes a minimum of 25% of the total enrollment. "Total Enrollment" includes full-time and part-time students at the undergraduate or graduate level. Enrollment statistics are self reported by the institution.

The Department of Education does not maintain an "official" list of Hispanic Serving Institutions. However, there is a list of institutions to which that have been awarded grants under the Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) program authorized by Title V of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as well as a list of institutions with high Hispanic enrollment.

The Office of Civil Rights (OCR) of the Department of Education has published a list of Postsecondary Minority Institutions, where you can also find a link to a list of "High Hispanic Enrollment" institutions.

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) maintains a list of HSIs that are a part of its membership. However, listing as an HSI by HACU does not "certify" an institution as an HSI for Federal grant purposes.
