Dr. Lorenzana is Region 10's senior toxicologist, as well as the ORD Regional Science Liaison. She has ten years of experience as an EPA human health risk assessor, and has lead efforts to document the unique environmental exposure of Asian Americans. Prior experience includes her roles as toxicologist/manager with the Oregon Health Division and the Washington Department of Health. She has a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, Ph.D. in toxicology from the University of Illinois, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Environmental Health Sciences Center, Oregon State University.
Since 1992, Dr. Lorenzana has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology. She holds adjunct faculty positions at the University of Washington and Oregon State University, and has guided a number of students through projects involving priority scientific issues important to regional programs. Dr. Lorenzana has extensive experience with risk assessment for the Superfund program and Water program. She has taught the Agency's Risk and Decision-Making and other risk assessment classes both nationally, as well as internationally. She has been a participant in numerous Agency workgroups including the Risk Assessment Forum, Technical Qualification Board, OSWER Technical Review Workgroup and others. She has authored many EPA technical documents, as well as manuscripts published in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Lorenzana participated in EPA's Leadership Development Program, including a 3-month detail in Australia to assist the Chair of the Australian Technical Working Party on Carcinogen Risk Assessment. The methodology has been adopted nationally in Australia and New Zealand.
