EPA scientists deploy a water profiler to measure physical characteristics - such as conductivity, temperature, and depth - of the water column in Skagway Harbor, Alaska.
In 2008, the OSV Bold supported scientific surveys over a wide variety of geographic areas of the United States, from the Gulf of
Mexico and the Florida Keys, to Alaska and the Pacific Coast. Scientific crews onboard collected data on topics ranging from monitoring contaminant
levels in sediments and aquatic organisms, assessment of coastal eutrophication and hypoxia, and monitoring of ocean dredged material disposal sites.
The information gathered through EPA's Ocean Survey Vessel Bold allows EPA to more effectively control pollution sources and is helping to chart a healthier course for our oceans.
