New Urban American Public Service Announcements Hit the Airwaves Soon
The gospel music sensation "Mighty Clouds of Joy" will soon be singing the praises of environmental stewardship on radio stations across the nation.
The famous Gospel group has joined with EPA to produce two environmental public service announcements that are being distributed this month to 50 radio stations in some of the country's largest cities.
In the ads, singers Joe Ligon and Richard Wallace tell Americans that "recycling 12 tons of paper saves about 20 trees. Recycling is good for the soul, good for the planet and good for the neighborhood."
The "Mighty Clouds of Joy" have had a long career and are the first gospel group ever to perform on "Soul Train." Nominated for eleven Grammy Awards, the group has won three of the coveted music industry awards, sharing the stage with the likes of Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and Earth, Wind & Fire.
The ads are part of the agency's Urban African American outreach program. The first ad in the series featured 2002 Miss USA Shauntay Hinton, who represented the District of Columbia. It was distributed to 100 radio stations and has been widely played.
