National Art Contest for Students in Grades K-12

Creating a world with less waste begins with a vision and EPA looked toward the next generation of environmentalists to supply it. The Agency's Office of Solid Waste (renamed Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery on January 18, 2009) conducted a national art contest for children in grades K-12 to promote resource conservation.

This contest was intended to stress the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling waste to our future leaders. EPA solicited entries from students in grades K-6, asking them to illustrate their interpretation of the theme "Paint a Path to a World With Less Waste." The winning art work was published as ORCR's 2004 Earth Day poster, which was displayed in venues across the nation.

Students in grades 7-12 were asked to illustrate their interpretation of the theme "Design a World With Less Waste." Their winning art work will was used as the cover art on ORCR's informational CD, A Collection of Solid Waste Resources. The contest ran from August 18, 2003 through November 1, 2003.
