NEJAC Meeting Announcement

The next meeting of the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council (NEJAC) will be held in Durham, North Carolina in conjunction with a NEJAC and EPA sponsored Environmental Justice Enforcement Roundtable.

NEJAC MEETING: Meets December 8-10 1997, at the Regal University Hotel in Durham, North Carolina.

ENFORCEMENT ROUNDTABLE: Meets December 11 - 13, 1997 at North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C. There will be shuttle buses available to NEJAC participants who wish to attend the Roundtable.

The NEJAC was established to ensure that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) receives input from affected stakeholders about environmental justice issues. The NEJAC consists of 25 members appointed from environmental justice groups; industry; and state, local and tribal governments, and includes both governmental and non-governmental organizations. There are six subcommittees which focus on the issues of: Enforcement, Health and Research, Indigenous Peoples, International, Public Participation and Accountability, and Waste and Facility Siting. In addition to the 25 members, 39 individuals serve as members of the subcommittees.

The full NEJAC will convene on Monday, December 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and on Wednesday, December 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The six NEJAC subcommittees will meet on Tuesday, December 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

PUBLIC COMMENT PERIODS: Public comment periods are scheduled during the NEJAC meeting from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on both Monday, December 8 and Wednesday, December 10.

Please Note: The full NEJAC will adjourn Monday morning, December 8, for a bus tour of local environmental justice sites. The bus tour is being offered to all meeting participants on a first come, first served basis. However, you must register for the bus tour to obtain a seat.
