MPG Range for SmartWay Refrigerated Fleets

Posted November 13, 2012

This chart, based on 2011 Carrier Partner data, shows fuel efficiencies for SmartWay refrigerated truck fleets. Refrigerated trucks, commonly called "reefers," carry freight that needs to be kept at controlled temperatures, ranging from deep freeze to--despite the name--heat. Smaller refrigerated trucks may draw fuel from the main tank, while others, like Class 8 refrigerated trucks, have refrigeration units drawing from their own separate fuel supply.

The graph shows a relatively small range of fuel efficiencies across SmartWay refrigerated fleets, with the vast majority in the range of 5 to 7 miles per gallon. The line is made up of individual points, each of which corresponds to a fleet's performance. To preserve confidentiality, no fleet name is associated with any data point.
