South Dakota was granted state program approval (SPA) in 1995. Five of the six states in Region 8 have approved programs.

Number of cleanups completed	2,271 (national total: 365,361)
Number of cleanups in backlog to be completed	97 (national total: 108,766)

Percent of facilities in significant operational compliance with:

	Release prevention requirements	63%
	Release detection requirements	71%
	Both prevention and release detection requirements	48%
