UST/LUST Program Status In Texas

Texas was granted state program approval (SPA) in 1996. All 5 states in Region 6 have approved programs. Region 6 was the first to have all of its states achieve SPA.

Number of active underground storage tanks 54,946 (national total: 629,866)
Number of confirmed releases 25,096 (national total: 474,127)
Number of cleanups completed 21,927 (national total: 365,361)
Number of cleanups in backlog to be completed 3,169 (national total: 108,766)

Percent of facilities in significant operational compliance with:
Release prevention requirements 62%
Release detection requirements 61%
Both prevention and release detection requirements 55%
