Inside this week's WaterNews: 1) Effluent Guidelines Plan PublishedOn September 4, 1998, EPA published in the Federal Register a plan for developing new and revised effluent guidelines. Effluent guidelines regulate industrial discharges to surface waters and to publicly owned treatment works. The plan incorporates public comments received from a proposed plan published on May 28 and is a requirement under Section 304(m) of the Clean Water Act.For a copy of the Federal Register notice, visit http://www.epa.gov/waterscience/guide/98plan.html. 2) Mississippi River/Gulf of Mexico Watershed Nutrient Task Force MeetingThe third Meeting of the Mississippi River/Gulf of Mexico Watershed Nutrient Task Force will take place in Bloomington, Minnesota on September 24, 1998. The Task Force includes federal, state, and tribal members, who are leading an effort to coordinate and support nutrient management and hypoxia-related activities in the Mississippi River and Gulf of Mexico watersheds.
