WaterNews is a weekly on-line publication that announces publications, policies, and activities of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Water.

1) EPA Sponsors Public Meetings to Discuss Drinking Water Data

On November 5, 6, and 9, 1998, EPA will hold three public meetings to discuss the quality of drinking water data in Denver, CO, Washington, DC, and Kansas City, MO, respectively. The purpose of the meetings is to obtain comments on EPA's draft action plan to improve the quality of drinking water data. The draft action plan addresses data quality at all levels: laboratories and public water utilities, local governments, state governments, and EPA. EPA is interested in what an appropriate data quality goal would be, how data quality problems originate, and how EPA can characterize, quantify, and improve data quality. EPA will ask for suggestions on prioritizing activities and ways to improve the way drinking water data is presented on EPA's Envirofacts website.

For more information on these meetings, please contact: Aundrey Wilkins in Denver, CO (aundrey.wilkins@epa.gov), Christine O'Brien in Washington, D.C. (obrien.christine@epa.gov), and Ann Keener in Kansas City, MO (keener.ann@epa.gov). To register for any of the meetings, call the Safe Drinking Water Hotline: 1-800-426-4791.
