1) Florida Everglades Restoration Plan Announced 1) Florida Everglades Restoration Plan AnnouncedVice President Gore presented to Congress today a comprehensive blueprint for rebuilding freshwater supplies in South Florida. The $7.8 billion plan calls for a series of water system improvements over 20 years to capture much of the fresh water that now flows unused to the ocean and deliver it when and where it is needed. Eighty percent of the "new" water would be devoted to environmental restoration in and around the Everglades, with the rest ensuring adequate supplies for cities and agriculture through 2050. For more information on this plan, visit the Florida Restudy homepage at http://www.restudy.org on the Internet or the White House press release at http://library.whitehouse.gov/ on the Internet.
