1) Senate Hears Testimony on TMDL Program
On March 1, EPA Assistant Administrator J. Charles Fox testified before the Subcommittee on
Fisheries, Wildlife, and Water of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. Mr.
Fox discussed the Nation's clean water program and efforts to identify polluted waters around the

The National Academies of Science's National Research Council released a report today
recommending that the federal government should not increase the maximum level of copper
allowed in drinking water, because high levels of copper may pose a threat of liver disease to
susceptible individuals. The report's recommendations are consistent with EPA's assessment of
