1) EPA Requests Comment on Costs of TMDLs EPA is soliciting comments on state resources required for development and implementation of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs), estimated annual costs to the regulated community, and estimated costs to small businesses resulting from regulatory changes to the TMDL program. In July 2000, EPA finalized revisions to the TMDL program that will take effect in October 2001. EPA is taking public comment on the above types of TMDL-related costs for 30 days. For a copy of the notice soliciting comments on TMDL costs, visit www.epa.gov/owow/tmdl/ on the Internet. 2) National Conference on Nonpoint Source Pollution Information and Education Programs Call for Abstracts The second National Conference on Nonpoint Source Pollution Information and Education Programs be held at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Illinois, May 15-17, 2001. This conference will provide an opportunity to learn and share ideas on nonpoint source information and education strategies. The conference will explore practical, state-of-the-art examples of successful outreach programs through multi-media sessions. Conference topics will include effective utilization of outreach media, special events and community activities, group dynamics for outreach efforts, volunteer monitoring, demonstration projects and activities, non-traditional outreach approaches, program refinement and evaluation, and public education programs. Abstracts of 300-400 words should be sent directly to the Conference Program Chair at barb.lieberoff@epa.state.il.us. Abstracts must be received by December 8, 2000.
