1) Environmental Management Systems Workshop, February 27 to March 1, Ft. Myers, FL

EPA, in conjunction with the Global Environment & Technology Foundation, is sponsoring a workshop February 27 to March 1 for 14 government entities chosen to participate in the Environmental Management Systems (EMS) program. An EMS is a set of management processes and procedures that allows an organization to analyze and reduce the environmental impact of its activities. First adopted by private industry, the EMS approach is increasingly common in the public sector. The workshop is part of an ongoing program involving a range of participants, including publicly owned treatment works, municipal solid waste operations, transit agencies, and public universities. Each participant develops an individual EMS over a two-year period of training and technical assistance. More information about the EMS project can be found at http://www.epa.gov/owm/iso14001/index.htm on the Internet.
