1) EPA Sponsors Training Sessions for Drinking Water Utilities

EPA, in conjunction with the American Water Works Association (AWWA), is sponsoring seven general information security training sessions on counter-terrorism for general managers, superintendents, and other management personnel at drinking water utilities. The main focus of the training is on potable water systems, however, wastewater and tribal system representatives are encouraged to attend. The training sessions will be held in November and December 2001 and January 2002. To register, visit AWWA’s web-site at www.awwa.org or send a fax to 393-794-8915. For those unable to attend these sessions, AWWA will offer a web-cast in December 2001 and an on-line training course in February of 2002.

2) EPA Releases Recommendations from the National Watershed Forum

EPA released recommendations from the National Watershed Forum held June 28 - June 30, 2001. The National Watershed Forum, designed to give voice to geographically, politically, and culturally diverse organizations interested in protecting and restoring aquatic resources through geographically-based partnerships, was attended by nearly 500 delegates. Key issues addressed in the recommendations report include: managing monitoring data and other information; protecting source water; implementing total maximum daily loads; protecting endangered species and habitat; planning for watershed protection; funding watershed projects; and education and outreach.
