Welcome to the Long Island Sound. This long, narrow body of water
stretches all the way from New York City to the eastern tip of Long
Island and is surrounded by two statesConnecticut and New
York. The Sound is 100 miles long and about 21 miles across at its
widest point. Altogether, it holds roughly 18 trillion gallons of
water! The average depth of the Sound is a shallow 65 feet, which
means you could clearly see the Statue of Liberty if it was dropped
into the water!
