The Barnegat Bay NEP has protected and/or restored a total of 1,230.34 acres of habitat in 2008. The pie chart shows the proportion of acreage devoted to each habitat-type, including 71% for Upland habitat and 29% for Wetland habitat.

The Table immediately below provides brief summary information about the protection and/or restoration projects completed and reported by the NEP in 2008.

Ballenger Creek Protection/Maintenance The parcel is adjacent to Bass River State Forest and the Edwin B. Forsythe Preserve. This aquistion is a critical connector parcel along our State coastal area. Tidal Wetland 225.63 0
Cassville Toms River Corridor Protection/Maintenance This property is a large tract of Township land and helps to preserve an important parcel along the Toms River. Forested Wetland 27.68 0
Central Avenue - Manchester Township Protection/Maintenance The parcel is across the road from Manchester Wildlife Management Area and is adjacent to the future 6000 acre Heritage Minerals parcel donation. Property. Forest/Woodland 30.4 0
Ciba Manchester Protection/Maintenance Bordering the Toms River, the easement over the Manchester Township property ensures that no active recreation will occur near the river and it remians protected. In addition, the Township donated 17.4 acres adjacent to the Toms River, just north of this site. Forested Wetland 89.4 0
Crossley Preserve - addition Protection/Maintenance This forested Pinelands property located in the Barnegat Bay Watershed is almost completely surounded by Crossley Preserve. This is a wilderness like property in an extreme fire hazard area and it will make an excellent addition to the Preserve. Forest/Woodland 54.8 0
Great Bay Boulevard Protection/Maintenance The property consists of 8.46 acres along Great Bay Blvd adjacent to our Great Bay Wildlife Management Area.Fish and Wildlife will manage the property as part of their Great Bay Wildlife Management Area. Lumley Tract Protection/Maintenance A highly regarded acquisition due to its size, location and nature. The NJ Natural Lands Trust has dedicated to partnering on this property with its mitigation fund acquired through the Stafford Business Park deal. Manahawkin Marsh Inholding Protection/Maintenance This property completes a larger project area and is included in Stafford Townships open space plans. Tidal Wetland 2.55 0
Manchester Township Protection/Maintenance The property is has a nice lake for fishing and birding. There are two bald eagles that nest at the site. The public is currently using the site for dog walking , fishing and birding. The site will be adjacent to the future donation of the Heritage Minera Forest/Woodland 245.84 0
Martone Protection/Maintenance An important piece along the Davenport Branch of the Toms River. NLTF has dedicated to preserving properties along this corridor for protection of the resources Forested Wetland 73 0
Paglia Protection/Maintenance This property is in close proximity to the Ridgeway Branch of the Toms River and the Sarama Homes property. Also nearby are the previously acquired TR Ridgeway Branch I and III properties. Forest/Woodland 5 0
Route 9 Stafford II Protection/Maintenance Part of the larger Route 9 Stafford acquisition area. This area serves as a buffer from busy Route 9 and the US F&W Forsythe Refuge Forested Wetland 11.4 0
Sarama Homes Protection/Maintenance This property is in close proximity to the Ridgeway Branch of the Toms River and the newly acquired Paglia property. Also nearby are the previously acquired TR Ridgeway Branch I and III properties. Forested Wetland 10.9 0
Spodofora Protection/Maintenance This property was an important property to preserve as it held the access for utilities to an adjacent property which was at one time under threat of development. Forest/Woodland 19.05 0
Talamas Protection/Maintenance Being near the not-yet developed County-owned Lochiel Creek Park, this site is in a key location with walking trails and is being actively used for passive recreation. The Lochiel Creek runs through this property. Forest/Woodland 7 0
Theibault Protection/Maintenance The Cabinfield Branch of the C-1 status Metedeconk River runs through this property. The donation fot his property ensures that this property and water flowing to the Metedeconk and the Barnegat Bay is protected. Forested Wetland 1.73 0
Westecunk Creek Protection/Maintenance The Westecunk Creek runs along the Northen perimeter of this property. This Creek is actively used for fishing and boating. Protecting this property also protects critical habitat for those animals using the creek. Tidal Wetland 126 0
