Overviews and Highlights

The Mobile Bay National Estuary Program is a successful partnership of local and state government agencies, the business community and conservation groups. The program released its draft Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) in 2001 and is currently awaiting approval from the Governor of Alabama for final submission to the EPA. The CCMP is a collaboration of the community focusing on the following five issues important to the peoples of Coastal Alabama: water quality, living resources, habitat management, human uses, and education and public involvement. Implementation of the management plan has already begun through collaboration with several state agencies. Additional action plan implementation will focus on greater community involvement through environmental education and outreach projects.
