Action Agenda for the Next Decade
In 2001, the National Dredging Team (NDT) sponsored a workshop in Jacksonville, Florida, entitled “Dredged Material Management: Issues and Needed Actions for the Next Decade.” The workshop provided an opportunity for stakeholders to revisit the 1994 Interagency Report (PDF) (41 pp,184K, About PDF) recommendations, to discuss dredged material management issues, and to propose actions needed for the first decade of the new millennium.
As a result of the workshop, the NDT developed the Action Agenda for the Next Decade (Action Agenda). The 2003 Action Agenda (PDF) (87 pp, 2.4MB, About PDF) consists of 22 general and specific recommendations to address issues impacting dredging projects. The NDT identified the following four primary subject areas for action:
- Beneficial use of dredged material,
- Sediment management,
- Emerging issues, and
- Strengthening Regional Dredging Teams.
Implementation of the Action Agenda
Implementation of the Action Agenda, through existing regulations and agency frameworks, helps to maintain a timely, efficient, and predictable review process for dredging projects. The NDT, Regional Dredging Teams (RDTs), Local Planning/Project Groups, and stakeholders work together to ensure that progress is made in implementing the 2003 Action Agenda recommendations. National and regional workshops and meetings are conducted to assess progress in the subject areas highlighted in the 2003 Action Agenda.
