Beneficial Uses of Dredged Material

EPA is actively working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and interested stakeholders in finding uses for dredged material rather than disposing it. Federal regulators, State and local governments, ports, other interested stakeholders, and the public are looking at dredged material as a potential resource. Beneficial uses of dredged material may include nourishment of beaches with clean sand or development of wetland habitats. Often these beneficial uses can come at a cost savings to the public. EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers have set up a Beneficial Uses website Exit EPA Disclaimer to demonstrate potential beneficial uses of dredged material by presenting existing case studies as examples.
