Phase II, Batch One Discharges

Batch One is the first of five projected rulemakings that EPA and DoD will be proposing in Phase II of the UNDS program. The seven discharges proposed to be regulated in the first batch are the following.

Chain Locker Effluent Reports
Chain locker effluent accumulates in, and is discharged from, the vessel's chain lockers, where anchors are stored.

Elevator Pit Effluent Reports
Elevator pit effluent accumulates in, and is discharged from, the sumps of elevator wells on vessels.

Hull Coating Leachate Reports
Hull coating leachate consists of constituents that leach, dissolve, ablate, or erode from the paint on the vessel’s hull into the surrounding water.

Photographic Laboratory Drains Reports
Photographic laboratory drain effluent is laboratory wastewater resulting from the processing of photographic films.

Surface Vessel Bilgewater/Oil Water Separator Reports
The surface vessel bilgewater/OWS discharge consists of a mixture of wastewater and leakage from a variety of sources that are allowed to drain to the lowest inner part of the hull, known as the bilge.

Underwater Ship Husbandry Reports
Underwater ship husbandry consists of materials discharged during the inspection, maintenance, cleaning, and repairing of vessel hulls and hull appendages.

Weather Deck Runoff Reports
Weather deck runoff consists of precipitation, washdowns, and seawater collected on exposed portions of a vessel.
