The Ohio Wetlands Foundation.
This nonprofit organization restores and enhances land that was previously
environmentally sensitive wetland; provides cost-effective, high quality,
wetland off-site compensatory mitigation credits; and funds wetland
research and education. This site would be useful to people interested
in donating Ohio wetlands for restoration and for those interested in
mitigation banking.
The Olentangy River
Wetland Research Park. The Wetlands Park at Ohio State University
is designed to be one of the most comprehensive wetland research and
education facilities in the nation. This web site offers swamp virtual
tours, links to articles and other information on wetlands, and wetland-related
news. This site provides an excellent example of how to make wetland
research and education available to the public.
Olentangy River Wetland Research
Park: Home page for Ohio State University's wetland research center.
There are links to research, professors, etc. Great resource for
wetlands restoration information in general and in Ohio in particular.

Brief overview of a priority area assessment that includes a wetland
restoration project. Brief, but lots of form-style information on

Eugene
Wetland Self-Guided Tour. This self-guided tour introduces readers
to the types of wetlands found in the Eugene, Oregon, area and provides
maps and pictures of publicly owned wetlands. This site is a good resource
for those interested in learning about wetlands in Eugene, Oregon. It
is especially useful to Oregon school groups studying wetlands.
SOLV. SOLV is a nonprofit
organization that brings together government agencies, businesses, and
individual volunteers in programs and projects to enhance the livability
of Oregon. Currently planned projects include several beach cleanups
and Team Up For Watershed Health, a program that mobilizes volunteers
to complete watershed health-related projects. This site provides
contacts for anyone wishing to get involved in Oregon restoration projects,
and could also provide useful information to other groups seeking to
motivate volunteers.
West
Eugene Wetlands Photographs. In spring 2001 Dr. Uladzimir Slabin
took approximately 5,000 photographs of the West Eugene Wetlands. This
site provides links to this collection of pictures. This site provides
many detailed pictures of different types of wetlands.
Tryon Creek Watershed:
Detailed description of a large-scale watershed management effort. Links
to chapters within the report. Very complete description.

Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. This site provides
a listing of Pennsylvania's waterways, wetlands, and erosion control
initiatives. Information is available on Pennsylvania's Wetland Net
Gains Strategy and initiatives to facilitate wetlands restoration. This
site is most useful for Pennsylvania residents interested in organizing
a wetland restoration project.
Saving
Dennis Creek. Learn how the people of Dennis Creek, Franklin County
Pennsylvania, decided to save their 14-square-mile watershed, which
drains into the Potomac River. A partnership of farmers, local officials,
students, and residents installed stream bank fencing and built replacement
wetlands and streamside buffers. They also developed nutrient management
plans for farms and started a stream monitoring program. This 15-minute
GreenWorks for Pennsylvania television episode, "Pollution: Solutions
and Results," is available for download. This web site is a good
example of how communities can make a difference by working together.
Stream Restoration Incorporated.
This nonprofit organization's mission is to focus on the restoration
of streams impacted by abandoned coal mine drainage. This Pennsylvania
organization has formed a public/private partnership to facilitate the
work of stream restoration. The web site provides useful information
about recently completed projects, opportunities for public involvement,
science fair project opportunities, and an on-line database containing
restoration information.
Pennsylvania
DEP Bureau of Watershed Management: Complete
source of information for wetland restoration projects, policies, fact
sheets. This is a fantastic site with every piece of information
you could want on Pennsylvania wetland programs. There are downloadable
forms for permit applications, sources for restoration project proposal
help fact sheets on wetland identification, urban wetlands, wetlands
and agriculture. This is certainly a must-see.
Winging it in restored wetlands:
A synopsis of a masters research project that focuses on attracting
birds to restored wetlands. Includes a brief history of wetland losses
in Pennsylvania, and color photographs. Very nice read, well designed
page with understandable details and nice photographs.

Save Narragansett Bay. This community-based
environmental organization seeks to improve the environmental quality
of Narragansett Bay through watershed restoration and pollution prevention.
The organization focuses its work on three areas: watching over the
activities of citizens that degrade the environmental quality of the
bay, leading the community by initiating programs and activities that
increase the environmental awareness and knowledge of the public, and
initiating actions that will directly clean up the bay and restore its
wetlands. This site is a good example of a community-based initiative
and provides many new and different ways to raise restoration awareness.

Blackstone River National Heritage Corridor: Discusses community efforts and
interest in working to restore the river corridor; includes contact information.

Tennessee
Valley Authority. The Tennessee Valley Authority provides electrical
power throughout the Tennessee Valley. It also sponsors a number of
environmental stewardship programs, such as wetland habitat protection
and shoreline stabilization and restoration projects. This site
provides an example of what large companies can do to protect and restore
wetlands.
Lower Mississippi Delta
Initiative: Description of a large-scale restoration project that
encompasses part of Tennessee. Site gives environmental problems, actions
taken, stakeholders, and contacts. Description is brief but informative.
Lower Mississippi
Valley Ecosystem Restoration Initiative: Similar to above but more
detailed description. Additional contacts are provided.

Streambank Restoration
and Erosion Management. The City of Austin, Texas's Watershed Protection
and Development Review Department web site features pictures and descriptions
of many of the city's completed restoration projects. This site
would be useful for anyone interested in different types of erosion
control and restoration techniques.
Texas
Parks and Wildlife Wetlands Assistance Guide for Landowners. The
Wetlands Assistance Guide for Landowners is a comprehensive guide to
federal, state and private programs offering technical and/or financial
assistance to private wetland owners within the State of Texas. A
useful resource for anyone interested in restoring wetlands in Texas.
Gulf Coast Marsh Ecosystem
Restoration/Management/Protection: Describes USGS study into restoration
of coastal wetlands and other coastal systems. Lots of information and
email contacts.
Texas Wetland Links: List
of links to information related to Texas wetlands. Good links to
policies, landowner information and more.
Texas Information: WetNet:
State resource for information on wetlands and wetland projects. Go
to "data" to find a wealth of mapping, etc. information on Texas wetlands.
A great resource!
Managing Wetlands in North Texas:
Introduction and access to a video prepared for government land managers
on wetlands in northern Texas. You can view the video here if you
have appropriate free software.
Can the loss of Texas
coastal wetlands be halted... or reversed?: Describes project designed
to restore saltmarsh and seagrass systems in Galvaston Island State
Park, TX. Nice description with a photograph and maps, and an internet
link to addition information.

The Decker Lake Wetlands Project:
Home page for this restoration effort. Page links to introduction, news
on the project, and locator map. Nice site, not a lot of restoration
information, but there are contacts.
Utah Partners for Fish and Wildlife
Home Page: Some wetland information can be accessed through this
home page. There is not a lot of information, but this is a group
ro be familiar with if considering a wetland restoration in Utah.
Wetland Restoration to
Benefit Endangered Fish in the Upper Colorado River Basin: USACE
note about research into this topic. The first site selected is near
Ouray, Utah. Results of this study will be interesting; it appears
to still be in the research phase.
Scott M. Matheson Wetlands Preserve in Moab, Utah: Nature Conservance Preserve home
page with wetlands history information, management information, field trips, etc.
There are maps and contacts listed throughout the pages. Nice site
with a lot of information.

Vermont Department of Forests, Lakes, & Recreation. The goal of the
Wetlands Protection and Restoration Program (WPRP) is to help protect the water quality of Lake Champlain through the
restoration and protection of wetlands. The WPRP was
created in 2006 as part of Governor Douglas' Clean and Clear Action Plan. The program is administered by the Department
of Forests, Parks, and Recreation. The WPRP is a voluntary program designed to provide financial and technical
assistance to landowners for restoring and protecting wetlands.
The Lake Champlain
Basin Program. The Lake Champlain Basin Program is a federal, state,
and local initiative to restore and protect Lake Champlain. Information
is available on the Lake Champlain Basin, the Lake Champlain Program,
and local efforts to protect the Lake. This site provides information
on the methods the Lake Champlain Basin Program is using to protect
and restore the wetlands surrounding the lake.
National Showcase Watersheds, including the Liberty Hill Farm Project, (PDF) (226 pages, 7.5 MB, about PDF). This web site provides information about
a riparian restoration project using tree revetments, livestock fencing,
and planting along the White River near Rochester, Vermont. The
site contains pictures depicting the site before, during, and after
project completion.
Vermont
Department of Environmental Quality: Wetlands Homepage. This site
provides an overview of the programs conducted by the Vermont Wetlands
Office. It also contains some basic information on wetlands delineation
and Vermont wetlands regulations. Links are available to other wetland
resources. This site provides information on the Vermont Wetlands
Office and would be beneficial to anyone looking for wetland regulatory
information.
White
River Partnership Habitat Restoration Projects. This site offers
links to several stream restoration projects, each incorporating different
restoration techniques (e.g., toe stabilization with rock and bio-engineering,
root wad revetments, rock weirs). Each project description includes
site information and restoration pictures. This site would be helpful
to anyone looking for examples of various restoration techniques.
Lake Champlain Basin Wetlands:
Wetlands information from this page; includes mapping, and wetland
restoration information, and contacts. Not much information, but
a place to start if your project is in this vicinity.
State of Vermont Water Quality
Division: State site with downloadable information on
water quality studies. No wetland restoration information per se,
but there may be useful data here.

Virginia Department
of Conservation and Recreation Native Plants for Conservation, Restoration,
and Landscaping. This web site describes the differences between
native and alien species, lists the benefits of native plants, and provides
information on how to buy and grow native plants in Virginia. The
site provides tables that are thorough and useful for people looking
for plants that will grow under specific wetland conditions.
Virginia Institute
of Marine Science (VIMS) Teaching Marsh. This 1-acre site was restored
to marshland for both practical and educational purposes. The Commonwealth
of Virginia has charged the Wetlands Program at VIMS to educate various
interest groups, such as local wetland boards, about the functions and
values of tidal wetlands. The web site offers a series of photos showing
the site before and after restoration, as well as photos of the types
of wetland plants used in the restoration. This site would be useful
for anyone looking for photos of wetland plants and examples of marsh
restoration.
Virginia
Institute of Marine Science Tidal Wetlands Impacts Data Home Page.
This site contains information on tidal wetlands management in Virginia
and the results of Virginia's management plan. This site would be
useful for anyone looking for detailed summaries of cumulative impacts
on tidal wetlands in Virginia.
Henricopolis Soil and Water District Programs: Links to program
descriptions including wetlands workshops, erosion and sediment control,
etc. Not much wetland restoration information, but the site may be
useful as a contact source.

City of Bellingham
Department of Public Works Environmental Restoration Resources.
This web site focuses on restoring degraded ecosystems and supporting
and protecting healthy habitats. The site describes two restoration
projects as well as a stream assessment conducted using CITYgreen software.
This site offers useful information for anyone interested in local
government restoration projects.
King County Small
Habitat Restoration Program Technical Assistance. King County, Washington,
Department of Natural Resources and Parks builds low-cost projects in
rural and urban King County that enhance and restore streams and wetlands.
This site provides basic information on how to use native vegetation
to restore or enhance streams, wetlands, and their buffers. It includes
instructions on how to determine the number and types of plants to use,
how to prepare a basic planting plan, and how to maintain the project.
This site would be useful for anyone looking for how-to restoration
project information.
King County
Surface Water Engineering & Environmental Services (SWEES).
The SWEES program works to improve storm water drainage, water quality,
and aquatic habitat in ways that balance the needs of people with the
ongoing health of the environment in which they live. Information is
available on several SWEES programs, including the Capital Improvement
Program that works with large restoration projects, the Small Habitat
Restoration Program, the Native Plant Salvage Program, and the Neighborhood
Drainage Assistance Program. This site is useful for people looking
for examples or technical assistance with large or small restoration
projects.
Longfellow Creek. This
web site details the efforts of a Seattle, Washington community to maintain
and improve Longfellow Creek. The site provides numerous resources,
including educational materials, data, and maps. This site would
be useful for anyone interested in urban stream restoration.
Northwest Straights Marine
Conservation Initiative. This initiative provides a way for local,
tribal, state, and community representatives to work together to protect
vital marine resources in northwest Washington State. The Initiative
draws strength from citizen-driven efforts to garner community support
for measures to protect and restore the Straits' salmon, shellfish,
bottomfish, and other vital resources, plus the habitats they need to
survive. Provides information on threats currently facing the Northwest
straits, steps being taken to protect the straits, and background information
and reports outlining the current state of the straits.
People for Puget Sound. This
organization seeks to restore the Puget Sound to a clean and healthy
sound, teeming with fish and wildlife, and cared for by the people who
live near it. The members work toward accomplishing this goal by restoring
habitat, speaking up for environmental protection, and gathering restoration
facts. This site would be useful for anyone seeking habitat information
about the Puget Sound or looking to get involved in the restoration
of the Sound.
Washington Department
of Ecology Showcase of Exceptional Education Products. The state
of Washington's Department of Ecology has developed a web site containing
educational products related to nonpoint source water pollution, including
publications, videos, and classroom materials. The site provides contact
information as well as other useful background information so that users
can obtain the products and adapt to their needs. This site would
be useful to classroom teachers or other instructors looking for nonpoint
source-related materials or working to restore wetlands impaired by
nonpoint source pollution.
Washington Department of
Fish and Wildlife Aquatic Habitat Guidelines. The interagency Aquatic
Habitat Guidelines team has launched this new web site. It contains
a series of papers that describe the current understanding of how land
uses and development affect aquatic and riparian habitats and summarize
literature on stream restoration strategies. Manuals that provide how-to
information for habitat restoration projects and case studies are also
accessible through the site. Provides useful technical assistance
for organizations working to protect and restore salmon habitat.
Access
Washington Department of Ecology: Shorelands and Wetlands: Lots
of information on permitting, regulations, grants, labs, watershed planning,
etc. Great source of information, don't miss this site.
WET:
University of Washington Wetland Ecosystem Team. Good
potential resource for wetland restoration work.
Columbia River
Estuary Study Taskforce: Map and general information on this task
force with contacts. Great map, likely a lot of information to be
read if they are contacted.
Spencer Island: Home
page for this park that indicates management for wetland restoration,
includes email contact. Nice map and photograph.
King County, Washington
DNR: Wetland Resources: Page full of links to additional information
on wetlands and their restoration. Great links page, nice design
and good descriptions.
McNary Environmental Education Center:
Information on projects (none is wetland related at this time) and nature studies
at the park (including migratory waterfowl and other wetland-related
studies). Great equinox counter on the home page! Also, may be a
good resource for educational restoration efforts.
Yakima Subbasin:
Information on this watershed including indication that wetland restoration
is occurring in the area. Not much additional information, but includes
a great map.
Chehalis River Council: Home page
for this non-profit organization that contains a lot of information; includes
contact information. There is wetland information in here, it is
interspersed through several pages.
University of Washington
College of Engineering: Wetlands Ecology, Restoration, and Protection:
Information on the professional program through this school that focuses
on this topic. No restoration information, just info on classes
and such and professors involved.
Restoring Wetlands
at a River Basin Scale: A Guide for Washington's Puget Sound: Establishes
goals for Puget Sound restoration and provides downloadable information
on the proposal. A lot of information here with an email contact.
SWIS

Wisconsin Department
of Natural Resources Data Compilation and Assessment of Coastal Wetlands of Wisconsin's
Great Lakes. Wisconsin's Coastal Management Program and Endangered Resources Program
have joined forces develop this web site, which raises public awareness about wetland
protection and restoration. Still under development, this site features
reports and maps, critical habitat and restoration sites on Lake Michigan
and Lake Superior, a photo library, a list of partners, and other data.
This site would be useful for anyone seeking resources to help raise
public awareness about wetland protection and restoration.
Wisconsin Vascular
Plants. This database of plant species found in Wisconsin is searchable
by name, habitat, county, family, genera, or common name. It provides
information on the plant as well as a picture. Under an EPA wetlands
grant, an index was developed and included in the database that indicates
the likelihood of the plant being found in presettlement conditions.
This site provides useful information on wetland plant species throughout
Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Wetlands
Association (WWA). WWA is a statewide, science-based education,
training, and research organization dedicated to the protection, restoration,
and enjoyment of Wisconsin's wetlands. WWA is the only statewide organization
focused exclusively on wetland protection. The approximately 700 members
include wetland scientists and educators, conservationists, outdoor
enthusiasts, concerned citizens, and local and regional organizations.
This page provides a useful summary of Wisconsin's wetland protection
legislation, as well as links to wetland restoration literature and
web sites.
The Upper and Lower
Rock River Basins of Wisconsin: Contains minutes from wetland
restoration discussions in the basins. No additional information,
but may be a source of a contact for additional information.
Hydrologic Investigations
of Wetland Restoration and Creation Projects: Describes the initiative
for this study, progress, and location of reports. Doesn't contain
information on restoration within, but accessing these reports might
be helpful.
UW-Madison Arboretum:
Describes goals and purposes of arboretum, one of which is research
into wetland restoration. No additional information, but links you
