What is the National Sustainable Design Expo?

The National Sustainable Design Expo is a truly inspiring exhibition of innovative technology for a sustainable future. Picture a high-rise farm, a 3-in-1 solar cooker that heats and generates power, or simple water treatment filters for villages in Africa. EPA P3 student projects exhibit alongside EPA programs, other government agencies and nonprofit organizations to showcase their achievements.

Visitors of all ages may attend this free 2-day event to explore and share ideas with the students and professionals in the field. The Expo will be open to the public on April 11, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on April 12, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

What is EPA's P3 Competition?

P3 stands for people, prosperity and the planet. For this annual event, teams of college students consider all three as they design tangible, cutting-edge solutions to real-world problems. They create; they innovate; they strive to make a difference. With a grant of $15,000 they develop their designs through the school year and then bring their projects to the National Sustainable Design Expo to compete for the EPA P3 Award and a second grant of $75,000 to implement their designs. This year's competitors can be seen here: 2014/2015 P3 Teams

Since its launch in 2004, EPA P3 program participants have gone on to start businesses and nonprofit organizations that are making a difference. Hear about their success stories here: P3 Multimedia Page
