Laundry Environmental Stewardship Program (LaundryESP): Partnership Programs Working Across Sectors!

Recently a group of Partnership Programs, including WAVE, Design for the Environment, ENERGY STAR Buildings, and Climate Wise joined together to assist the textile supply and service industry sector in implementing the new Laundry Environmental Stewardship Program, or LaundryESP. The textile supply and service industry sector includes nearly 1,800 facilities that launder textile items, such as linens, shop and print towels, uniforms, floor mats, mops, and other items found in thousands of industrial and commercial companies, hotels, hospitals, and restaurants.
LaundryESP, a voluntary multimedia pollution prevention program, reflects the industry's commitment to improved environmental protection. Two trade associations, the Uniform and Textile Service Association (UTSA) and the Textile Rental Services Association (TRSA), representing over 90% of the industry, have helped to create LaundryESP and to set ambitious industry-wide goals to reduce energy and water use and increase the use of environmentally friendly wash formulas by 2002. The program also includes pollution prevention goals and initiatives aimed at laundry customers that will result in the release of fewer pollutants into the environment. EPA is excited about LaundryESP because it has the potential to positively affect not just the textile supply and service industry, but every industry to which launderers provide their services.
EPA's
Partnership Programs will work with LaundryESP to help the industry
meet its goals. The Partnership Programs are enthusiastic about the
opportunity to collaborate and collectively address the environmental
challenges of an entire industry through technical support, outreach,
education, and public recognition. For more information, please contact
