American Farmland Trust Center for Agriculture in the Environment
The American Farmland Trust (AFT) and EPA jointly fund projects to solve environmental problems associated with agriculture. In 1991, AFT established the Center for Agriculture in the Environment at Northern Illinois University.
The Center oversees much of the research undertaken by American Farmland Trust. This research provides the framework for AFT's mission of protecting farmland and encouraging environmental stewardship. Research topics include integrated pest management (policies and public/private partnerships), farmland protection (farmland protection tools and fiscal impacts), and conservation practices (policies and innovative approaches).
American Farmland Trust's research arm also includes the Farmland Information Library and the Agricultural Conservation Innovation Center, which specializes in developing innovative solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
In addition to undertaking research projects, the Center for Agriculture in the Environment also publishes a working paper series and organizes workshops and symposia. For more information on the Center for Agriculture in the Environment, contact:
