Additional Resources

The Code of Federal Regulations

The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) is the codification of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the executive departments and agencies of the federal government.

Reregistration eligibility decision (RED) documents

During reregistration, EPA reviews older pesticides (those initially registered prior to November 1984) under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) to ensure that they meet current scientific and regulatory standards. A RED document is a summary of the results of EPA's reregistration review of a product registered prior to 1984. This process has been completed, and EPA is now re-examining all pesticide registrations on a 15-year cycle. This process is known as registration review.

EPA's Pesticide Registration Status Web site shows the status of each chemical in the registration review process, and provides links to a chemical's Web page and any decision documents or fact sheets that are available. Information that may be available on a chemical Web page include the Chemical Review Manager contact information, Docket ID number, decision and fact sheet documents, Federal Register notices, and related documents.

The Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) Labeling Consistency Web site and other stakeholder resources

Pesticide product manufacturers, users, state regulatory agencies, and other pesticide stakeholders often raise questions or issues about pesticide labels. EPA has established several processes for dealing with label-related questions. The Labeling Consistency Web site is public and includes questions and answers arranged under many topic headings. The registering divisions have ombudspeople to help address questions from any source that are specific to a particular product. State regulatory officials also have access to a nonpublic EPA system known as the State Label Information Tracking System (SLITS) for directly contacting OPP product managers with product-specific questions. The SLITS system also accumulates questions from stakeholders and permanently posts the answers.

The Registration Division

The Registration Division is responsible for product registrations, amendments, registrations, tolerances, experimental use permits, and emergency exemptions for conventional chemical pesticides.

The Pesticide Re-Evaluation Division

The Pesticide Re-Evaluation Division is responsible for registration review and reregistration follow-up (including post-RED activities, product reregistration, and implementing certain tolerance reassessment decisions) for conventional pesticides.

The Antimicrobial Division

The Antimicrobials Division is responsible for all regulatory activities associated with antimicrobial pesticides, including product registrations, amendments, and reregistrations.

The Biopesticides and Pollution Prevention Division

The Biopesticides and Pollution Prevention Division is responsible for all regulatory activities associated with biologically based pesticides. Biopesticides and Pollution Prevention Division activities also include work to reduce pesticide risks by promoting integrated pest management and coordinating the Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program and Strategic Agricultural Initiative.
