Environmental Quality Awards

Each April, EPA Region 2 honors individuals and organizations who have significantly improved the environment in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Award Categories:

  • Individual Citizen
  • Non-Profit Organization, Environmental or Community Group
  • Environmental Education
  • Business & Industry
  • Federal, State, Local or Tribal Government or Agency
  • Media
Selection Criteria:

  • Significant contribution to improved environmental quality in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands during 2009.
  • High achievement level in the award category.
  • Creation of unique or location-specific benefits, results that are sustainable or reproducible, or increased public involvement in environmental action.

Nominations must be submitted by Monday, February 22, 2010.

Nominations must include:

  • A completed nomination form [PDF 185 KB, 1 pg].
  • A separate narrative description of the nominee’s accomplishments.
  • Supporting documentation such as testimonials, news clippings, etc.

Please note:

  • Self-nominations are welcome.
  • Awardees from 2009 are not eligible in 2010.
  • Awardees from 2008 and prior years are eligible, but must be renominated for consideration in 2010.
