Tip of the Week: April is Records and Information Management Month (27-MAR-2007)

Initiated by ARMA International and endorsed in EPA's Document and Records Management Task Force report, "Records and Information Management Month" is a great time to promote records management in your organization.

Here are some ideas you can use:

  • Display records management posters: order from NARA and ARMA or design your own.
  • Host a records management open house or a tour of your records center, where people can meet the records staff. (Refreshments always help improve attendance.)
  • Sponsor a records "catch-up" day: make sure to provide guidance on "what is a record."
  • Brief staff and/or senior management on the benefits of good records management practices or a specific topic (e.g., vital records).
  • Send announcements via bulletin boards or intranet pages.

Be creative and use this as an opportunity to build on NRMP's in-person and online records management basic training, and the online ECMS training.
