NARA Disposal Authority:
This schedule authorizes the disposition of the record copy in any media (media neutral), excluding any records already in electronic form. Records designated for permanent retention must be transferred to the National Archives in accordance with NARA standards at the time of transfer.

Description:
Application software necessary solely to use or maintain a master file or database authorized for disposal in a General Records Schedule item or a NARA-approved records schedule.
Excludes: Any special purpose software necessary to use or maintain any unscheduled master file or database or any master file or database scheduled for transfer to the National Archives.

Guidance:
This item covers only application software for disposable systems. Electronic information systems warranting permanent preservation must be scheduled for transfer to the National Archives.
