Title: Committee Management Records for Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) Committees

NARA Disposal Authority:

This schedule authorizes the disposition of the record copy in any media (media neutral), excluding any records already in electronic form. Records designated for permanent retention must be transferred to the National Archives in accordance with NARA standards at the time of transfer.


Includes records maintained by the Committee Management Officer in the Office of the Administrator for committees established under the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA). Committee management activities include the establishment, appointment of members, and operation and termination of chartered federal advisory committees. Types of records include copies of charters, membership lists, agendas, policy statements, statistical data files, financial operating plans, General Service Administration reports and other statistical reports on the number of committees, types of committees, membership rosters, requests for approval of committee nominees, appointment documents for individual committee members, financial disclosure documents, material required to be available for public information and other related topics maintained by the Committee Management Officer.

Excludes: Records maintained by the sponsor or Secretariat of FACA committees scheduled as EPA 181.

Item a: Record copy


The Committee Management Officer in the Office of the Administrator, Office of Cooperative Environmental Management is responsible for maintaining the record copy of charter establishments, renewals, amendments and terminations. Copies of these documents as well as all other documents related to meetings, members, etc., are maintained by the Designated Federal Officers (DFOs) for each committee and are covered by EPA 181. Copies of committee records not maintained by the sponsor or secretariat are covered by EPA 186.

Other committee records are covered by the following schedules: EPA 187 for internal EPA committees; EPA 188 for the Quality and Information Council; EPA 518 for rulemaking committees; EPA 525 for congressional committees (maintained by the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations); and EPA 737 for CIO committees.

Records of an international committee held by the U.S. member or representative when the U.S. is not the sponsor or Secretariat must be scheduled separately.

Reasons for Disposition:

Conforms to NARA's General Records Schedule 26, item 4.

Item b for electronic mail and word processing system copies was deleted 08/16/2006 pursuant to NARA Bulletin 2006-04.
