NARA Disposal Authority:
This schedule authorizes the disposition of the record copy in any media (media neutral), excluding any records already in electronic form. Records designated for permanent retention must be transferred to the National Archives in accordance with NARA standards at the time of transfer.
- General Records Schedule 16/2
Contains descriptive inventories, disposal authorizations, schedules, and reports. Includes copies of basic documentation of records description and disposition programs, including SF 115 - Request for Records Disposition Authority; SF 135 - Records Transmittal and Receipt; SF 258 - Agreement to Transfer Records to National Archives of the United States and related documentation.

Item a(2): Records description and disposition program documentation
Close inactive records after the related records are destroyed or after the related records are transferred to the National Archives of the United States, whichever is applicable.
Destroy 6 years after file closure.
Item b: Routine correspondence and memoranda
Close inactive records at the end of calendar year.
Destroy 2 years after file closure.
The record copy of Agency SF 115s are maintained in the schedule history files in the National Records Management Program. Both the schedule history files and SF 258s are maintained in accordance with EPA 145 for program development files.
Reasons for Disposition:
Conforms to NARA's General Records Schedule 16, item 2.
Item a(1) from GRS 16/2 was deleted in the 2/15/2007 version because the record copy of the SF 115s are maintained under schedule 145.
Item c for electronic mail and word processing system copies deleted 08/18/2006 pursuant to NARA Bulletin 2006-04.
