NARA Disposal Authority:

This schedule authorizes the disposition of the record copy in any media (media neutral), excluding any records already in electronic form. Records designated for permanent retention must be transferred to the National Archives in accordance with NARA standards at the time of transfer.

Description:

Contains EPA general law files, including records related to ethics and standards of conduct, financial disclosures, contracts, appropriations, and real property, Title VI external complaints of discrimination, and related files.

Contains EPA claims files consisting of records related to the considerations and settlement of claims by and against the U.S. Includes Federal tort claims, employees' claims, waivers of claims, claim collection actions and other related actions. Records consist of claims forms, supporting documentation and other evidence, and Claims Officers determinations.

Also contains EPA personnel law files, consisting of records related to discrimination and civil rights, labor relations, adverse employee actions and labor standards appeals or complaints. Records consist of complaint files of actions filed before administrative agencies or in Federal courts.

Guidance:

The Office of General Counsel is responsible for maintaining the record copy and implementing the disposition. Copies incorporated into other files are retained according to the disposition instructions for the records they support. Administrative grievance, disciplinary, and adverse action files maintained by the personnel office are covered by EPA 564.

Reasons for Disposition:

The following change was made in the 08/31/2011 version:

The disposition instructions have been rewritten as media neutral to allow for maintaining the record copy in EPA's electronic recordkeeping system. The retention has not changed.
