What We Do
- conducts wetland monitoring and assessment
- promotes the use of wetland data in decision-making
- coordinates with and provides technical assistance to our states
- provides technical expertise and training in wetland monitoring methods such as the HGM (hydrogeomorphic) approach and bioassessment methods and development of wetland water quality standards
- identifies priority wetlands/projects
- supports watershed and wetland restoration and mitigation projects
- supports partnerships with other government agencies, non-profits and businesses to leverage available resources
- coordinates with the Army Corps of Engineers to implement the Mitigation Rule
- provides limited, direct funding, including wetland program development grants for state and local governments, interstate agencies & state universities
- provides cross program collaboration with the EPA mid-Atlantic's Wetland Regulatory and Enforcement Team
- provides internal coordination across programs (Wetlands and National Environmental Policy Act teams in EAID, Water Protection Division Clean Water Act Section 305b/303d programs, and the Chesapeake Bay Program Office)
- facilitates the Mid-Atlantic Wetland Workgroup (MAWWG)
