conducts wetland monitoring and assessment
promotes the use of wetland data in decision-making
coordinates with and provides technical assistance to our states
provides technical expertise and training in wetland monitoring methods such as the HGM (hydrogeomorphic) approach and bioassessment methods and development of wetland water quality standards
identifies priority wetlands/projects
supports watershed and wetland restoration and mitigation projects
supports partnerships with other government agencies, non-profits and businesses to leverage available resources
coordinates with the Army Corps of Engineers to implement the Mitigation Rule
provides limited, direct funding, including wetland program development grants for state and local governments, interstate agencies & state universities
provides cross program collaboration with the EPA mid-Atlantic's Wetland Regulatory and Enforcement Team
provides internal coordination across programs (Wetlands and National Environmental Policy Act teams in EAID, Water Protection Division Clean Water Act Section 305b/303d programs, and the Chesapeake Bay Program Office)
facilitates the Mid-Atlantic Wetland Workgroup (MAWWG)
