OU1; Plume in the vicinity of the former BAE Facility:

  • For OU1, EPA agreed that BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems Integration, Inc. (BAE) could better define the extent of contaminated groundwater and document the findings in a Pre-Design Investigation (PDI) Report.  In addition to these investigations, BAE conducted a pilot test to evaluate the possible use of soil vapor extraction (SVE) and/or dual-phase extraction, which combines SVE and groundwater extraction and treatment technologies.

  • The PDI Report was submitted to EPA in January 2009 and contained an evaluation of chemical, physical and biological treatment alternatives.  EPA evaluated the PDI results and completed a Focused Feasibility Report (FFS) and EPA issued a Proposed Plan for public comment. After the public comment period closes (October 17, 2014) the selected cleanup will be published in a Record of Decision (ROD) Amendment.

OU2; Plume in the vicinity of the former Stabilus Facility:

  • EPA issued a Record of Decision (ROD) for interim action on September 7, 2011.

  • EPA received extensive comments on the 2008 Proposed Plan for interim action. Response to the substantive comments are included in the 2011 ROD as the Responsive Summary. EPA issued an order requiring the PRPs to perform the Remedial Design/Remedial according to the 2011 ROD. The Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs) are currently designing the cleanup.

OU3; Plume in the vicinity of Advanced Lane:

  • Design and implementation of the remedy continues. In October 2011, EPA began a pilot study to test the effectiveness of selected remedy, enhanced in-situ chemical oxidation, at treating contaminated groundwater. The pilot study included a pre-injection sampling round, injection of a chemical oxidation (potassium permanganate) into one well, interim water-quality monitoring of nearby monitoring wells and, a post-injection sampling round. The in-site chemical oxdiation pilot study was completed in 2013. Additional remedial design work will begin occur in 2014.
