LOCK HAVEN, Pa.; May 21, 1998 -- The Drake Cleanup Team interrupted operations yesterday afternoon while crews diagnosed causes for higher than normal flow rates of solution in the acid gas scrubber, at the base of the discharge stack. This situation did not cause any changes in normal stack emissions. Feed was shut off and, an hour and a half later, the thermal relief vent (TRV) was opened to facilitate diagnostic work. The planned TRV opening occurred only after the system was purged of contaminated soil. In accordance with the operating plan, notification was made to appropriate public officials prior to the TRV opening. A section of broken pipe was located and is being replaced. Repairs are expected to be completed by tonight, at which time burners in the incinerator will be relit. Production feed to the incinerator is expected to resume Friday, after the incinerator reaches full operating temperatures and all restart safety checks are completed.
