EPA Public Comment Period for Avtex Fibers Superfund Site Proposed Plan

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has opened the public comment period for the Proposed Removal Action Plan (Proposed Plan) for the Avtex Fibers Superfund Site in Front Royal. The Proposed Plan addresses the plans to close Sulfate Basins 1, 2, 3, 4, 4E, and 5; the Waste Water Treatment Plant Basins, including the Emergency Lagoon and two polishing basins; and Fly Ash Basins 1, 2, 3, and 6 and Stockpile.

EPA relies on community input when making decisions about a Superfund Site. Interested parties may comment on the Proposed Plan until July 2, 1999. EPA will summarize and address all comments received at the public meeting and written comments postmarked by July 2, 1999, in an Action Memorandum.

Public Meeting

EPA will hold a public meeting at
7:00 p.m. on June 17
to present the Proposed Plan and to address questions and concerns.
