LOCK HAVEN, Pa.; April 2, 1998 -- A brief occurrence of dust developed at the Drake Superfund cleanup incinerator at 9:05 a.m., today, some portion of which crossed the property line along the north boundary of the site as it dissipated. The dust, from the bag house collection system, consisted of fine particles which had already been cleaned in the kiln and secondary combustion chamber. The incinerator was shut down at the time, and while the main induction fan was being turned off for testing, some dust falling off bag house bags escaped from the bag house ash collection conveyors.

Historically all of the fly ash particles have passed their analytical tests and have been backfilled at the property.

Since the incinerator was shut down, no contaminated soils were being handled within the incinerator system. Although there was no loss of contaminated material in this incident, emergency response and regulatory agencies were notified.
