Drake Team To Connect Clean Property Into Storm Drainage; Marks First Step As Reclaimed Property
LOCK HAVEN, PA; April 2, 1998 -- Work crews from the Drake Cleanup Team will begin excavations just south of the Superfund Site property, tomorrow, to connect into an existing 24-inch storm sewer line. Workers will install about 134 feet of 12-inch pipe between a new sewer inlet, within the south end of the site, and the existing line at a point 68 feet south of the property line.
With the southern tip of the 10-acre site nearly backfilled to grade level with clean soil, this new drainage will collect precipitation falling on clean soil in the reclaimed portion of the property. As more of the property is restored, it will be graded so its runoff drains to this storm sewer system.
All rainwater or other precipitation falling on contaminated soil continues to be drained into an onsite collection basin and is treated in the site's waste water treatment plant.

Work crews are expected to take at least three days to complete the project and will work throughout the weekend. All work will be performed under the direction of health and safety inspectors, who will prescribe appropriate protective clothing and procedures if warranted.
