Drake Team Completes Kiln Repairs; To Begin Heat Up Saturday
LOCK HAVEN, PA; April 3, 1998 -- The Drake Cleanup Team completed repairs to worn refractory brick within the incinerator kiln, late today, and expects to start the gas-fired burners about mid-day Saturday. The burners were turned down to begin cooling the incinerator when worn refractory brick was discovered Tuesday morning.
Burner temperatures will be gradually raised over the weekend in order to bring the incinerator up to effective operating temperatures. The feed of hazardous soils into the kiln and the resumption of full production is expected early next week.
Since beginning full-scale production on March 4, the Drake Cleanup Team has cleaned more than 16,800 tons of soil at this former chemical plant site.
