Drake Cleanup Team Recycles
LOCK HAVEN, PA; April 24, 1998 -- The Drake Cleanup Team will ship out 25,000 pounds of used water filter carbon for regeneration, today. The carbon was used in filters within the Superfund project's waste water treatment plant (WWTP) between May 1995 and September 1997. All rainwater landing on the contaminated site, as well as waste water generated on the site, is processed at the on-site WWTP before it is discharged under a state permit. Carbon, used in the filtration process, is purchased as a recyclable commodity and is being returned for regeneration.
The used carbon will be picked up by Envirotrol, Inc., of Beaver Falls, Pa., for transportation to the firm's Darlington, Pa., plant. Two tank trucks will be used to pump out and haul the material.
The canisters holding this carbon have been idle since a new waste water treatment plant was erected and placed in service in October 1997.
