Drake Cleanup Team Making Progress Toward Early May Restart

LOCK HAVEN, PA; April 28, 1998 -- The Drake Cleanup Team, today, began warming the kiln to start curing the new refractory lining. The kiln refractory is used to provide a uniform heat source which drives contaminants from soils at this former chemical company site.

Over the past week, subcontractors installed a specially formulated refractory lining material and are now beginning the process of curing the material. Water vapor is intermittently visible from the stack because a low heat source is being used in early stages of the cure. By Friday, the team expects to turn on the incinerator's main burners to complete the cure and prepare the system for resumption of full production.
