LOCK HAVEN, Pa.; June 29, 1998 -- In recent days, two workers at the Drake Chemical Superfund project suffered heat related symptoms and were taken to the Lock Haven Hospital for treatment and release. The first heat incident occured Saturday morning, and the second happened Monday morning. Both employees were working in protective clothing which inhibits natural cooling. Following release from the hospital, each employee returned to work the same day.
The two incidents are under investigation by OHM Remediation Services Corp., the contractor operating the project, and by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. As a precaution, safety procedures for workers operating in high heat and humidity are being reviewed.
