Novak Sanitary Landfill
Fact Sheet May 2000
Construction Starts Soon at Novak Landfill
Lapp Road Allentown, Pennsylvania
Work begins at the Novak Landfill in Allentown, Pennsylvania this June. Landfill capping and upgrades will make this site safe and modern. This landfill is no longer open, yet this work will bring a lot of activity to the landfill. The work should be finished by Spring 2001.
We need clean soil for the capping project, which trucks will bring to the landfill. Trucks going to and from the site will be carrying clean materials. In planning this work, project members met with school transportation officials, township officials, and the local roads department. We will work to minimize our traffic during the busiest times of day for the local schools.
Trucks will use Orefield Road, Cedar Crest Road, Willow Street and Quarry Street.
Other work at the site includes: fencing the area to keep people out, installing outlets to vent gasses, drilling wells to collect landfill leachate, and monitoring underground water for quality and movement.

We are hosting a session so you can meet with us and learn about how this work is protecting the environment and improving your community. Representatives from the engineering firm de maximis will also be on hand. A group of companies that once used the landfill are paying for the work. They hired de maximis to carry out the project. The Environmental Protection Agency is overseeing the project to ensure that our goals and regulations are met.
