TMDL Reports
TMDL Search
The TMDL Search link above provides a link to EPA's searchable national TMDL database. The TMDL database will eventually include all available TMDL documents in PDF format. The national TMDL database is currently being populated and TMDL reports and other related TMDL documents are being posted in the database as soon as they are available. The database can be searched by keyword, state, TMDL status (e.g., approved, proposed), TMDL lead, and date of establishment. A description of the types of TMDL documents available in the database and through this web site is provided below.
Each Region 3 state has three main categories of TMDL reports:
- Proposed by the State
- Proposed by EPA
- Approved/Established by EPA
Approved TMDLs and proposed TMDLs are posted separately to distinguish between those TMDLs that are in effect and those that are not. TMDLs are developed by both the states and by EPA. TMDLs developed by the states must be submitted to and approved by EPA. The Approved/Established by EPA reports are final TMDL reports that have been through the public comment period and finalized by EPA. Descriptions of the TMDL information that can be found through this web site are as follows:
Proposed by State: The draft TMDL documents developed by the states are not provided on the EPA web site. For draft TMDLs proposed by the state, see the link to the appropriate state TMDL web site on the Related Links page of this web site. The draft TMDL document can be found on the state TMDL web sites, if available. Official comments on proposed state-developed TMDLs can be submitted to the contact provided on the state's TMDL web site.Proposed by EPA: When EPA proposes a TMDL, the draft TMDL document, as well as the Public Notice document will be published on this site. (A "News" box will appear on the Home page when appropriate.) All proposed drafts are posted for public comment. The Public Notice provides details on the public comment period. Official comments on proposed EPA-developed TMDLs can be sent to:
Lenka BerlinApproved/Established by EPA: These TMDLs are both state- and EPA-developed TMDL reports that have been approved by EPA. If the TMDLs were EPA-developed, then the Final TMDL document, as well as the corresponding Decision Rationale and Letter of Approval are provided in the national TMDL database. If the TMDL was state-developed, the Decision Rationale and the Letter of Approval are posted, if available. Final TMDL reports for state-developed TMDLs can be found on the respective state's TMDL web site, if available (see Related Links).
